Hello everyone

I went for the pre-op today for my knee.

I am feeling ever so wobbly about it all! Not really me I know! Had lots of to-ing and fro-ing to get as far as the appointment. They tried moving it a few times and then last night I got home from my trip to exeter to find a message asking me to be there at 8.30am instead of 1pm. I rang up and said I couldnt be there until 10.30 at earliest.

So I got there at 10.30 to find for the 3rd clinic appointment in a row that they had none of my notes. This is because all the notes staff have got the sack as they aren't 'patient facing'....ThumbDown

I saw the nurse who looked pretty daunted by the wheelchair and I quickly find that they had assumed that because of my DOB means I am 35 and they had assumed I was having a simple arthroscopy appt...

Well within a few moments the nurse went and got her snr and I was in and out of offices and weighed and measured and muttered about.

After a long spell with the snr sister, going through my meds and conditions (which my mind went rather blank on at times but I got the main points down)
I was returned again to the waiting room and told I would need more tests and to see a snr anesthetist next week....

Suddenly I had to gulp.

Tears humiliatingly prickled.

Gulped some more and went and had some blood forms completed and then the nurse explained that actually one of the snr anesthetist was about and would see me.

They are going to operate but I cant have an epidural. I will need a GA and need to come the day before.

I will need to be "a strong advocate" and tell them all about needing a sliding scale etc.

*sigh*

she did write it all down but I wonder where her writings will go...

*sigh* again

There are no guarantees when the surgery will be or when it will work.

Its a synovectomy and debridement not an "arthroscopy"

in all honesty the surgeon says I need a replacement but the anesthetist explained this as a 'first step'

Well! Ive got through it...!

Jenni xx

PS one of the nurses has undiagnosed joint and immune issues and pointed her in the NRAS direction- cant help myself!Smile

Good to know that you made it through today Jenni Smile and the senior bod was around so hopefully this speeded up things a little for you.

Of course we can t help ourselves by directing those in need to NRAS, we are such wonderful folk !

Glad you got through the appointment Jenni. Not what you hoped for but the closer it gets the sooner it is over. Good luck.

Hi Jenni,

You certainly have a time of things, and I do hope you come through this with as little discomfort as possible. You are an inspiration to everyone with RA. You're always smiling and take things in you're stride.

Be strong Jenni,

Love Lorna x Smile
